BMW Associates celebrated the 2007 Earth Day in unusual fashion, with a number of eco-conscious activities and exhibitions at the Spartanburg, SC-based facility. Based around the theme, “Under the Sea,” inflatable fish and sea bubble balloons decorated the main corridor as more than two dozen vendors sponsored awareness projects, giveaways and installations highlighting a range of Green literature and local environmental efforts. Associates participated in Earth-friendly raffles, viewed art galleries featuring recycled employee uniforms, and learned about healthy organic foods and how they can sustain the environment through projects in their own homes.

BMW Plant’s Solvent Solution Boosts Efficiency, Purges Problem:
BMW’s North American plant continues its commitment to environmental protection and “green” manufacturing by recycling used solvents from its paint shop. The solvent initially used to clean paint application equipment is simply packaged and shipped off to its recipients in places like Ohio, where it is repurposed to clean the inside of tanker cars, trucks and rail cars. This new process saves the plant valuable processing time and shipping costs, and is a worthy effort to help reuse and recycle plant materials whenever possible. And because of environmental regulations, the process turns a time-consuming chore into a valuable chemical resource.
