For Jennifer "Buffy" Murphy, the honor of being named South Carolina's Teacher of the Year comes with much more than the recognition for excelling in the classroom...it comes with a new, deep-green metallic BMW Z4 Roadster. Murphy, a fifth-grade teacher at Irmo Elementary School in Lexington, was chosen by the SC Department of Education to represent South Carolina's 50,000 teachers and will travel the state during her year-long sabbatical behind the wheel of her new Roadster. On hand for the presentation was State Superintendent of Education Inez Tenenbaum.
