Always looking for the most efficient and innovative way to build the ultimate driving machine, BMW Manufacturing has recently completed a major conversion of its Assembly Line. Since the factory began building multiple models, there have always been two distinct lines within Assembly — one specifically for the X5 and one for the Z4. At the end of 2005, the plant froze production as the Assembly Line was reconfigured to operate as one line for both the X5 and the Z4.
The move to one line will allow for improved associate flexibility and will prepare the plant for the future. This conversion will also shorten the lead-time on new model introduction and allow additional flexibility for seasonal fluctuation of models consistent with market demand. To maintain its position as a leader in automotive manufacturing, BMW Manufacturing must take advantage of the latest technologies and methods. By streamlining the production processes within the factory walls, the South Carolina-based facility is doing just that.
The Z4 Facelift
BMW's revolutionary Z4 Roadster recently underwent a number of upgrades. From an updated, stylistic grille to improved horsepower and performance across the entire model range, the latest Z4 Roadster will, yet again, redefine what it means to be a roadster.
Introducing the M Roadster
The wait is finally over. The Z4 Roadster is now being fitted with the legendary "M" marque. Outfitted in the distinctive styling of the M line, this roadster also boasts the incredible power and performance expected of an M car.
Process Development Center
BMW Manufacturing Co. continues to advance the manufacturing process with the completion of its 13,800-square foot Process Development Center. This new facility will provide pre-production evaluation of supplier components and improve the quality of every BMW that rolls off the line at the South Carolina factory.
