We offer real world projects that allow students to gain knowledge and experience in a particular area of interest, as Co-op and Internship participants are integrated into the daily life of the organization.

Student Options

The Co-ops and Interns at BMW Manufacturing Co. participate in programs at the Spartanburg, South Carolina plant where the X5 Sports Activity Vehicle, X6 Sports Activity Coupe, Z4 Roadster, Z4 Coupe, M Coupe and soon-to-be X3 are exclusively produced for worldwide distribution.

Cooperative Education (Co-op) Program

The BMW Cooperative Education Program gives undergraduate students the opportunity to gain valuable career-related work experience by alternating at least three semesters/six quarters of full-time work and study.

Those students interested in the German culture and language could have the opportunity to participate in the International Co-op Program. These students have the opportunity to do their third or fourth rotation in a German BMW facility. Participants must meet the general requirements, be enrolled in university's international co-op program, and have language proficiency.

Internship Program

BMW Manufacturing Co.'s Internship Program allows undergraduate and graduate students to work for one time period (spring, summer, or fall) in order to test their career choices while gaining valuable experience. The internship program also provides BMW Manufacturing Co. a practical application in areas where special projects need completion.

Co-op/Internship Requirements

You can join BMW Manufacturing Co. for a Co-op or Internship if you are a full-time student, pursuing at least a Bachelors degree, attend an accredited university or college in the United States, and meet the following requirements:

  • Have a declared major
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00/4.00
  • Completed at least three semesters towards your degree by the start of the work term
  • Minimum of one college semester remaining after any work term
  • Registered with your career services or co-op office before beginning the application process.
  • Co-ops must be able to complete three rotating work terms prior to graduation.
  • Interns must be able to complete one work term prior to graduation.
